My grandma's name is Maria Dolores, but everyone calls her Lolita. She’s 95 years old, which has allowed her to explore the world and amass an amazing assortment of hats. She has 57, to be precise, currently hanging all the way up the stairs in her house. In August 2022, we spent four days shooting, trying to document some of the best pieces. Then I worked with my friend David del Valls to create a fanzine. I transcribed our phone calls and used them to narrate the story of the collection. I also sourced postcards she sent from abroad to some of her grandchildren, as well as old images of the house. She was absolutely thrilled to see the result during our Christmas celebrations and this is one of my favourite pieces of work to date.
